This presentation will describe the development and implementation of a clinical decision support tool for community acquired pneumonia which would support ambulatory care providers more effectively diagnose the severity of community acquired pneumonia, and subsequently identify the site of care for pneumonia. Given the extent to which health information technology is transforming ambulatory care, this presentation will focus on the implementation of a clinical decision support within the increasingly common environment of electronic health records in order to explore its potential benefits to patient safety.

Speaker: Prashila Dullabh, M.D., Senior Fellow at NORC, is a clinician informatician with more than 15 years of experience in health care and health services research. At NORC, Dr. Dullabh directs health IT technical assistance, evaluation, and assessment projects for federal agencies and foundations. Notably, she serves as the PD of the AHRQ-funded project on Adapting and Implementing Patient Safety Practices in Ambulatory Care, focused on using Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tools to aid the diagnosis of community acquired pneumonia. She recently directed the ONC-funded, Standardized and Shareable Opioid CDS for electronic health records (EHRs), which focused on the conversion of opioid-prescribing guidelines into CDS; and led the 4-year evaluation of the State HIE Cooperative Agreement Program.
